About the Site
Liquid Elephant was born in the summer of 2001, whilst I was bored at work. I decided that I wanted to construct a website for myself, and needed a name.
Out of the dark, fragrant recesses of my teenage mind came the words “Liquid Elephant”. Unsurprisingly (to most people), the domain name had not been taken. I quickly scooped up liquidelephant.co.uk and set about building ‘my home on the web’.
Across the years, it has been a weblog for myself and my friends, a forum for my year as we all left school to head off to University, and then it slowly faded away.
I found myself with nothing to say or, perhaps more appropriately, nobody to listen. So it faded away, the domain name being snapped up by one of those arsey companies that buys up expired domains and sticks a stupid advertisement page there.
A few years passed, I quit University and started making my way in the world. I decided that I might have some things to say again, so I bought liquidelephant.com, uploaded the latest version of Wordpress and went to town.
For a while.
Another site - www.edhirst.com - took over. It’s my name, and I wanted a professional-sounding email address as I embarked upon my new career. Liquid Elephant, once more, fell into disuse.
Fast forward a year to last week. I consolidated some domains and, after I accidentally hosed my EdHirst.com site, I decided that Liquid Elephant would once again bear fruit.
Here we are. I forget how many times this site has changed its form and/or function, but this is the latest incarnation. Welcome, I hope you find something you like reading here
