My 23rd birthday was on January 8th (just a heads up for next year), and I haven’t yet had a birthday present. This is nothing new, I think for my 19th I didn’t really get anything at all.

It’s not, however, the product of some awful parentage, it’s simply my diabolic ability to decide on things.

This year, I decided that I wanted a new stereo for my car. The one I have is stock, and whilst it plays a CD just fine, being able to play MP3 CDs and thus not have to scrabble around changing CDs at 85MPH+ would be good, and that’s before talking about the habit my current stereo has of randomly re-tuning itself, occasionally to a radio station that doesn’t actually exist.

I took a trip to Halfords, and couldn’t decide on one I liked. I took a trip to another shop in Newport, and saw one that might’ve been quite good.

Since then (it has now been 4 months, a whole quarter of a year) I’ve not made any further decisions. I know that I want one, I know that it only needs to do fairly simple things and look anything other than a shade of gaudy boy-racer shite.

So why can’t I just decide, get it bought and fitted, and get it over with?

Okay, I’ll be honest. This is a slightly misleading* title. Unfortunately Rob plucked my intended title from my brain without either of us even realising it, so one does what one can in such situations.

The weekend just gone was ace. It was Han’s birthday, which is inevitably always really good. It involved a lot of pub, a lot of people, and a lot of good times.

Happily I had a new contract to go to today, back at Siemens/National Assembly for Wales, otherwise I might’ve been a bit melancholy. It’s a bit like Christmas, really; you have a really great time, you forget almost totally about all the other crap that may be going on in your life, you start getting inspired by the littlest things and resolve to change whatever it is that you don’t like about your life that you’ve not yet forgotten, and then it ends.

Just like that.

You’re back to Square One, Monday Morning. You have to get up early and do all the stuff you forgot you had to do, you realise that changing things will take a lot more willpower/money/sex than you currently have, and all the wonderful people you just spent time with are disappearing to carry on doing their own things.

But enough of the misery. I’m a bit sad that people I have so much fun just being around aren’t around more often, but time flies and summer promises to be a good ‘un, so until then I shall resolve to actually try and change some things I don’t like about my life, make some good money, and occasionally try and recapture the absolute nonsense and carefree happiness that these people I know can bring.

I’ll also try and keep this blog updated a lot more frequently. Rob has been doing sterling work with his, i.e. capturing every waking thought so I should really raise my game a little. In my defence, I have spent the past week in Coventry on a training course with no internet access in the house

(Oh yeah, I went back to the standard theme, because the orange one was pissing me off)

——————————

*It’s only slightly misleading, because they are all so damn pretty.
